The ICC has given an “average” rating to the pitch used in the 2023 World Cup final between India and Australia in Ahmedabad.
This assessment is part of the ICC’s review of pitch and outfield ratings for matches held at five Indian venues during the World Cup.
Notably, eight World Cup matches, including five involving India, received an average overall rating, with the pitch in Ahmedabad hosting the final and an earlier India-Pakistan match receiving an average rating for both games.
The Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium pitch, used for the first semi-final between India and New Zealand, was rated as “good.” Despite concerns about the pitch being changed, the match witnessed a high-scoring encounter.
India’s head coach Rahul Dravid had expressed disagreement with two “average” pitch ratings for India’s league matches during the tournament. He emphasized the need for recognizing different types of surfaces, not solely focusing on high-scoring matches.
