According to the Ministry of Commerce data, Pakistan’s exports of nine sectors, including value-added textiles, increased by double digits in the first month of 2021-22 compared to the same month a year ago.
Value-added sector exports increased, increasing overall exports from these industries. The low base of last year, when export-oriented companies stayed closed due to the Covid-19 closure and cancellation of orders from international purchasers, is one of the causes for development in these sectors.
Exports of clothes, home textiles, jerseys, fruits and vegetable ethyl alcohol, stockings and socks, maize, and plastics increased in July compared to the same month in 2020. Exports of rice, pork, cement, and tents, on the other hand, dropped.
Men’s clothes exports increased by 23 per cent to $406 million in July, up from $329 million the previous year, followed by a 9 per cent growth in home textiles exports to $380 million, up from $349 million the last year.
