In Pakistan, the luxurious Hyundai Sonata is now available for reservation

Hyundai Nishat has established a stronghold in Pakistan’s premium vehicle market with the debut of the all-new locally assembled Hyundai Sonata sedan. The Hyundai Sonata is Pakistan’s first locally assembled and cheapest D-Segment executive sedan, competing directly with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

The 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter variants would cost Rs. 6.4 million and Rs. 7.1 million, respectively, according to the manufacturer. Although this is not what most people would consider “cheap,” the Sonata is significantly less expensive than its Japanese competitors, both of whom cost well over Rs. 10 million (1 crore) due to being CBU vehicles, which is a huge sum for any vehicle.

Only two variants of the Sonata are available in Pakistan. A 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine powers the base model, while a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine powers the higher-end model.

The former generates 152 horsepower and 192 newton-meters (Nm), while the latter generates 191 horsepower and 245 Nm. The 2.0L has a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.5L has an 8-speed automatic transmission.

While the Hyundai Sonata is a highly appealing option when compared to its competitors – particularly in terms of price – it must be realised that sedans are increasingly becoming obsolete, not just in Pakistan but globally.

Crossover SUVs, also known as CUVs, have exploded in popularity in Pakistan due to their relatively low cost, modern features, imposing stature, and comfortable ride.

For all of these reasons, the new sector has become a favourite in Pakistan, impacting sales of some of the country’s most well-known brands, such as Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic.

Because of their exorbitant costs and less utilitarian character, names like Hyundai Accord and Toyota Camry have traditionally been relegated to a specific niche.
