India is moving forward with plans to build its most advanced 5th-generation stealth fighter jet. This step comes after the country’s Defence Minister approved a new framework for the project.
The decision was made at a time when tensions are rising with Pakistan and when India’s air force is facing pressure due to a shrinking number of squadrons.
Currently, India’s air fleet is down to 31 squadrons, while neighboring countries like China and Pakistan are boosting their air power with modern jets, including the Chinese J-10. To maintain its strength in the region, India wants to build a state-of-the-art fighter jet that can match or even surpass the capabilities of its rivals.
The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which is leading the project, will soon invite private companies and government firms to submit their bids for building the first prototype of this advanced jet. This means Indian defense manufacturing is opening up more to private players, creating new opportunities in the aerospace sector.
The new stealth jet will be designed to avoid radar detection, carry modern weapons, and perform in all types of missions. Experts believe it will play a key role in keeping India’s air force strong in the coming years.
By taking this step, India aims to reduce its dependence on foreign fighter jets and boost its own defense production capabilities. The project is not just about building a jet — it’s about strengthening national security and preparing for the future.
