India’s attempt to place Pakistan back on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list has not been successful. Instead of downgrading Pakistan’s status, the global watchdog decided to keep the country under a “reporting” system, which means Pakistan will continue sharing updates on its progress but will not face stricter monitoring.
Pakistan was previously removed from the FATF grey list in 2022 after showing major improvements in its efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. Since then, the country has continued to work on strengthening its financial and legal systems to meet international standards.
According to sources, several countries, including China, Turkey, and Japan, supported Pakistan during the latest FATF discussions. Their backing played a key role in countering India’s efforts to influence the decision. This outcome is seen as a diplomatic win for Pakistan, reflecting its continued progress and growing support on the international stage.
