India Issues Fresh Flood Alert to Pakistan After Releasing More Water into Rivers

India has issued a formal flood alert to Pakistan through its High Commission, warning about rising water levels in the Tawi River. The alert follows water releases from the Pong and Bhakra dams in India, which are now expected to increase the flow into Pakistan.

According to irrigation department sources, between 250,000 and 300,000 cusecs of water could enter the Sutlej River and reach Pakistan within the next 48 hours. This large volume of water may pose serious risks for low-lying and downstream areas.

In response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has already raised warnings in districts that are likely to be affected.

Special attention has been directed towards areas near Ganda Singh Wala, where flood levels are expected to remain high. Local administrations have been advised to prepare relief measures, ensure evacuation plans, and keep rescue teams on alert.

This development comes at a time when Pakistan is already dealing with a severe flood emergency. The country has faced relentless monsoon rains, flash floods, and glacial lake outbursts in recent weeks.

These disasters have damaged infrastructure, displaced families, and caused heavy losses in agriculture and livestock.

Millions of people across different provinces are reported to be affected, with many communities still waiting for adequate relief.

The fresh warning about incoming water from India highlights the urgent need for cross-border coordination, disaster preparedness, and stronger support for vulnerable populations. Authorities in Pakistan are working to minimize the impact, but the situation remains highly challenging.
