Indian Cricketers Won’t be Allowed to Participate in Saudi’s Richest T20 League

Saudi Arabia’s world’s richest cricket league has caught the attention of IPL franchise owners. However, Indian players won’t participate due to strict BCCI regulations. BCCI fears it could damage the IPL’s brand value.

Several IPL franchises such as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants, are involved in overseas T20 leagues in UAE, South Africa, USA, and the Caribbean. This raises questions about the effectiveness of BCCI’s regulations.

Saudi Arabia’s proposed cricket league aims to make the country the top tourist destination for India by 2030. However, the BCCI expressed concern about the infrastructure and the absence of top Indian cricketers. The lack of Indian players could impact the league’s success, given cricket’s immense popularity in India.

However, IPL franchises are free to invest their money where they want, even if the BCCI prohibits Indian players from participating in the new league. No current Indian players will be taking part in any of the leagues, but as far as franchise participation is concerned, we can’t stop them, a top BCCI official said.

The absence of Indian players might be a challenge for Saudi organizers, given the sport’s popularity in India. However, it presents an opportunity for Saudi Arabia to develop local talent and promote the sport in the region.
