The suspension of mobile broadband internet services since Tuesday has resulted in a significant financial loss of approximately Rs2.49 billion to Pakistan’s telecom sector, as reported by ARY News on Friday. This marks the fourth consecutive day of service suspension in various parts of the country following the riots that erupted after the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
On a daily basis, the government generates revenue of Rs280 million from mobile broadband services. Consequently, the suspension has caused a substantial loss of nearly Rs860 million to the government.
The impact extends beyond financial implications, affecting e-commerce, online services, home delivery, and ride-hailing applications. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, approximately 150,000 bike riders have been adversely affected by the suspension of broadband internet services.
Furthermore, the All Pakistan Software Export Association has reported a significant loss of Rs10 billion in the last three days within the software sector. Unfortunately, according to sources within the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), there is currently no indication of internet restoration in the country today.
