Iran has lifted restrictions on the import of Pakistani kinnow after nine years.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi took to Twitter to say, “I am pleased to share some good news for our citrus farmers. Following talks, (I am) pleased to declare that Iran has lifted its ban on Pakistani kinnow imports.”
On Tuesday, Qureshi had a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the presidential palace. In Tehran, he also met with Pakistani diplomats to discuss ways to improve economic and trade ties between the two countries.
He continued, “Economic diplomacy is a valuable tool specifically for Pakistan’s horticulture industry, and the dividends are extremely high.”
“Iran is one of the largest markets for kinnow; as a result of this announcement, kinnow exports will increase significantly in the coming season, which is good news for farmers,” he added.
