Abbas Araghchi has clarified that Iran is not currently engaged in any direct negotiations with the United States, and has not issued any formal response to reports a proposed US peace initiative.
He explained that while Tehran continues to receive messages through indirect channels, responses are only given when deemed necessary. Araghchi stressed that there remains “zero trust” between Iran and the United States, highlighting the longstanding tensions and lack of confidence that continue to define relations between the two countries.
The foreign minister further revealed that some level of diplomatic communication is still taking place through regional intermediaries. Countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt have reportedly played a role in facilitating these indirect exchanges, acting as channels to convey messages between the two sides.
Despite these limited contacts, Araghchi’s remarks indicate that there has been no meaningful progress toward formal dialogue or negotiations, underscoring the continued complexity of diplomatic relations in the region.
