The Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Syed Aminul Haque, has announced plans to attract Apple to invest in Pakistan. The minister mentioned that Pakistan has already encouraged Samsung and Nokia to set up assembly plants, and now the focus is on convincing Apple to make a significant investment.
Minister Haque also talked about the ministry’s efforts, including working with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for a thorough study on 5G, involving experts and stakeholders. He suggested that guidelines for the study could be issued by the caretaker government.
The minister pointed out the increase in IT exports during May–June 2023, even though exports from other sectors decreased. He emphasized the need to complete 83 projects started through the Universal Services Fund by December 31.
Furthermore, Haque urged the government to support the telecom sector in improving infrastructure to offer better services to the public. He assured that proactive steps are being taken to address challenges in the industry.
