IT Ministry to Establish Pakistan’s Largest Incubation Centre Worth Rs. 2 Billion in Karachi to Promote Animation Industry

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) will soon establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to promote the country’s animation industry, in view of its growing interest across the country whether it is simple comics or complex anime productions.

According to reports, the project is being carried out in collaboration with the University of Karachi and will cost over Rs2 billion.

The centre will take up 28,000 square feet of space within the Sheikh Zayed Institute building on University Road. This, according to government authorities, makes it the largest incubation centre in Pakistan.

Furthermore, Rs. 1 billion will be spent on necessary equipment and facilities, while another Rs. 1 billion will be spent on the center’s five-year spending, as per sources.

A deal has already been signed with Ignite to construct the CoE, which will include a vertical incubator, training centre, production studio, and co-working space for animation, VFX, and game development, according to the officials.
