According to Pakistan Thalassemia Centre, 5000 children are born with Thalassemia major every year.
Thalassemia is a life-threatening genetic disorder that passes from the parents to their kids if precautions are not taken. Thalassemia is of two kinds – Thalassemia Major and Thalassemia Minor. Thalassemia Minor individuals are carriers and do not have the symptoms. Whereas, Thalassemia Major individuals have a blood-borne disorder resulting in the need for blood transfusions every few days along with timely medication and proper care.
Various organizations in Pakistan work to offer quality care to Thalassemia Major children, including Help International Welfare Trust (HIWT). HIWT makes sure to provide timely blood transfusions and adequate care to their Thal Stars (Thalassemia major patients). Apart from the necessary care like blood transfusion and medication, HIWT also organizes picnics and events for these children to give them a breeze of fresh air.
Help International Welfare Trust has organized a Beach Picnic “Picnic for a Cause” as a recreational activity for Thalassemia major patients at Hawksbay. To make it possible, they need your support.
