Former Australian spinner thinks that players who give preference to IPL (Indian Premier League) instead of their national teams should not be picked up in international cricket. He considers Cricket Australia (CA) should get tough on the players who prioritize playing in the IPL over being played for their country.
According to the sources, The IPL 2021, which has been suspended mid-season by the beginning of May because of a covid-19 outbreak, is set to begin again in September in UAE.
Though the September-October pane of the money-rich event will clash with the international matches of various teams such as England and Australia, and the tournament will reach the conclusion days before the beginning of the T20 World Cup. Therefore, the committees and the players will have to decide where they might skip the second half of the IPL.
However, some players like David Warner, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell withdraw their names from Australia’s future tours of West Indies and Bangladesh, and it is said that they want to stay fresh for the 2nd phase of the IPL 2021 to happen in UAE.
Warne showed his concerns on players’ growing interest in franchise cricket while speaking to a podcast,
“If players want to make money, let them. But if you want to play cricket for your country and (still) you choose to play the IPL over your country, then maybe it is not worth picking those guys, Otherwise, this is going to happen, people are going to rest and miss Test matches and miss representing your country to go and play for money,” said Warne.
