Karachi Police Banned from Availing free Food from Hotels and Restaurants

Ghulam Nabi Memom, the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Karachi, on Thursday prohibited cops from receiving free meals from hotels and restaurants in Karachi.

The AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon issued a directive to the DIGs of three zones in Karachi, stating that complaints had been received concerning officers receiving free or discounted food from hotels.

“This is beyond the scope of police power and constitutes extortion,” he stated, adding, “Such an act is a source of animosity among the populace.”

In his direction, the AIG stated that all officers and their subordinates should receive a clear message regarding the immediate cessation of such operations, as well as a warning that no such complaint would be accepted in the future and that offenders would face severe consequences.

Ghulam Nabi Memon, who was promoted to AIG Karachi for the second time, has given a number of directions aimed at boosting policing in the city.
