Karachi to Get New Buses for People’s Bus Service Fleet

In an important development, funds have been released by the Sindh Accountant General (AG) Office to clear Chinese-imported buses, aiming to expand the People’s Bus Service fleet in Karachi.

The buses, initially brought in by the former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, were stuck at the Karachi Port, causing a delay in increasing the city’s bus fleet. The intervention of Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar prompted the release of funds after he warned the Accountant General to speed up the process.

The additional buses are expected to ease commuting in Karachi. CM Baqar highlighted the importance of the Circular Railway and the completion of all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines to tackle public transport challenges in the city.

He also expressed the intention to work with the federal government to swiftly get approval for the BRT Red Line Corridor from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
