In Karachi, the traffic police achieved a noteworthy milestone by imposing a significant number of fines on individuals violating traffic regulations within a single day.
According to a statement from DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara, a total of 9,555 challans were issued, resulting in fines amounting to Rs6.87 million. This enforcement effort targeted a variety of traffic offenses.
Specifically, 1,033 fines were handed out to individuals riding motorcycles without helmets. Additionally, 1,200 challans were issued for underage drivers, resulting in fines totaling Rs2.1 million.
The traffic police took action by seizing 1,105 motorcycles belonging to underage drivers, underlining a robust approach to enforcing traffic laws.
Breaking down the financial implications of the fines, DIG Traffic highlighted that Rs2.5 million was collected from motorcyclists, while over Rs0.7 million came from fines imposed on drivers of small cars.
Emphasizing the principle of equality before the law, DIG Traffic conveyed that compliance with traffic rules is mandatory for everyone, regardless of their social status or profession.
He underscored the commitment to imposing fines and penalties on traffic violators, reiterating that this applies universally, whether the offenders are ordinary citizens or members of law enforcement.
Notably, this intensified enforcement effort follows an announcement made in October by the Karachi Traffic Police regarding a substantial increase in traffic fines. This move signifies a more stringent and proactive approach towards addressing traffic violations in the city.
