KP Govt Permits Dairy Farmers to Mix 8% Water in Milk

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has allowed dairy farms to add up to 8% water to milk. During a discussion in the KP Assembly, Provincial Food Minister Zaher Shah Toro shared that 583 milk samples were collected from different areas across the province for testing.

Among these samples, only 7.2% were found to be completely pure and free from any harmful substances. The rest of the samples were found to contain various types of adulterants, meaning that the milk was mixed with other substances that shouldn’t be there.

Minister Zaher Shah Toro also highlighted a serious concern regarding the use of formalin in milk. He explained that using too much formalin, a chemical often added to preserve milk, significantly increases the risk of cancer for those who consume it.

To protect public health, shops found to be selling milk with dangerously high levels of formalin have been shut down by the authorities. The government is taking these steps to ensure that the milk available to the public is safe and of good quality.
