Kuwait Unveils New Rules for Engineering Jobs

Kuwait has introduced fresh regulations aimed at enhancing the quality and professionalism of engineering roles in the private sector. The new rules, announced by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), focus on ensuring that engineering qualifications meet standardized criteria before work permits are issued or renewed.

Under these regulations, engineers seeking to work in Kuwait must now have their qualifications certified through a detailed recognition process.

Graduates from accredited Kuwaiti institutions or those whose credentials are verified by the Ministry of Higher Education are eligible to apply. This step marks a significant shift towards maintaining higher standards in engineering professions.

For engineers already working in Kuwait, a temporary registration will allow them to continue in their roles while completing the equivalency requirements. New arrivals, on the other hand, must first obtain initial recognition from a specialized committee, granting them a two-year period to fulfill the necessary certifications.

Exceptions exist for individuals transitioning from government roles or non-engineering professions. However, they must also follow specific approval procedures to ensure compliance.

Employers and engineers share the responsibility for meeting these requirements, with non-compliance potentially leading to a reclassification of roles.

These measures aim to elevate the engineering sector’s professional integrity and align qualifications with global standards, reinforcing Kuwait’s commitment to excellence in its workforce.
