The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced revised toll tax rates for vehicles using the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), effective from August 26, 2025, to August 25, 2026.
According to an official notification issued on Monday, the adjustment comes under the annual 10 percent escalation clause outlined in the concession agreement signed on April 23, 2014, between the NHA and Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited—a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). The agreement, structured on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, mandates an annual increase in toll charges starting from the motorway’s second operational year.

As per the revised schedule, the toll tax for Cars, Jeeps, and Taxis (Class 1) has been set at Rs 1,330, calculated at Rs 3.72 per kilometer. Wagons (Class 2) will be charged Rs 2,240 (Rs 6.24/km), while Buses will pay Rs 3,130 (Rs 8.73/km).
For freight carriers, the new rates are significantly higher. Two-Axle Trucks (Class 4) will pay Rs 4,460 (Rs 12.45/km), while Three-Axle Trucks (Class 5) have been fixed at Rs 5,800 (Rs 16.20/km). The highest category, Articulated Trucks (Class 6), will now pay Rs 7,460, based on Rs 20.83 per kilometer.
The NHA emphasized that the upward revision is part of a long-term agreement to ensure maintenance, rehabilitation, and sustainable operations of the motorway infrastructure under the BOT model.
The Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), spanning 357 kilometers, is Pakistan’s oldest and most heavily used motorway, serving as a vital link between the country’s political and commercial hubs. The annual escalation in toll rates is seen as a necessary step to cover rising operational costs while ensuring the motorway’s upkeep to international standards.
