Skywatchers across Pakistan can look forward to a stunning sight tonight as the year’s biggest and brightest moon, the Beaver Supermoon, will light up the sky.
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced that the moon will appear at 6:19 p.m. (PST) and remain visible throughout the night, glowing noticeably larger and brighter than an ordinary full moon.
According to experts, this supermoon will be around 7.9% bigger and 16% brighter than usual because it will be at its closest distance to Earth roughly 356,980 kilometers away. The event takes place when the full moon coincides with its perigee, the point in its orbit where it comes nearest to Earth.
This phenomenon is the second in a sequence of three consecutive supermoons occurring in October, November, and December 2025. While several supermoons happen each year, only a few reach this level of brightness and proximity, making tonight’s occurrence a rare treat for sky enthusiasts.
The name “Beaver Moon” comes from old Native American and European traditions, marking the time when beavers prepared for winter. Today, it offers people a chance to reconnect with nature and enjoy the calm beauty of the night sky.
SUPARCO has advised citizens to view the supermoon with the naked eye or through binoculars for a clearer look at the moon’s surface, including its craters and plains.
The evening promises a glowing lunar display, giving Pakistanis a chance to witness one of the most captivating astronomical events of 2025.
