‘Learn To Bowl Wobble Seam After Watching Mohammad Asif’: James Anderson

During the summer of 2010, England’s renowned bowler, James Anderson said that he learned how to bowl the wobbling seam delivery after observing Pakistan seamer, Mohammad Asif.

In Test cricket, the 39-year-old has 640 wickets to his name and is known as the ‘King of Swing.’ The right-arm bowler told that he needed to concentrate on the wobbling seam before the 2010/11 Ashes since Kookaburra doesn’t provide as much swing.

Anderson claimed that he saw Asif bowling these nipping off the seam deliveries during Pakistan’s tour of England, and he afterwards tried to emulate the technique, which eventually led to success during the 2010/11 Ashes Down Under.

“David Saker was our bowling coach before the 2010/11 Ashes. He explained that because the Kookaburra doesn’t swing for a long time, having something extra in his bowling arsenal was vital for success in Australia,” Anderson stated.

He further added, “We played against Pakistan in summer 2010, and Mohammad Asif was bowling this ball that just wobbled a little bit, it wasn’t seaming or swinging, he was just attempting to nip off the seam.”
