Lesco Announces Details of Charges for Solar Meter Installation

Lesco has provided an important clarification regarding the installation of net metering or solar meters in the areas it serves. According to a Lesco spokesperson, the process for setting up a net meter is straightforward and transparent, with no hidden complexities.

The spokesperson emphasized that Lesco is not responsible if a private company is charging extra fees during this process.

The spokesperson reassured the public that the installation of net meters is free from any form of corruption. He urged customers to report any Lesco official who might demand a bribe during the installation process.

He made it clear that Lesco’s role is limited to issuing the NOC for net meters, and consumers are free to purchase these meters from any approved company of their choice.

Furthermore, he clarified that Lesco does not impose any additional fees beyond the standard charges for installation, changing the name on the account, or increasing the load capacity.

For residential customers, the cost for changing the name on the account or increasing the load is Rs. 1,220 per kilowatt, while for commercial customers, the cost is Rs. 1,810 per kilowatt.

The spokesperson also provided guidance on where to submit applications for the NOC based on the desired power capacity. For requests up to 15 kilowatts, consumers should submit their applications to the Sub-Divisional Officer.

For applications seeking NOCs for up to 70 kilowatts, these should be directed to the Executive Engineer. For larger capacities ranging from 70 kilowatts to 500 kilowatts, applications need to be submitted to the office of the Superintending Engineer.

Finally, for NOCs ranging from 500 kilowatts to 1 megawatt, applications should be submitted to the Chief Engineer Planning office.

Lesco’s clarification aims to ensure that customers are well-informed about the process and to prevent any misunderstandings or exploitation during the installation of net metering systems.
