Lighting the Way with Khidmat Ka Jazba

Karachi is a city brimming with resilience, innovation, and an unbreakable spirit of service. Every day, countless individuals and organizations work tirelessly to uplift communities, tackle social challenges, and pave the way for a brighter future. From improving access to education and healthcare to fostering inclusivity and sustainability, these efforts form the backbone of Karachi’s development.

As Karachi grows, so do its challenges. Addressing these evolving issues requires fresh ideas, consistent efforts, proactive initiatives, and organizations willing to take on uncharted territories.

Recognizing and amplifying these contributions, K-Electric’s KHI Awards once again shone a light on the city’s changemakers and philanthropes. The initiative, which honors institutional philanthropy, continues to uphold this year’s theme of ‘Khidmat Ka Jazba Rahe Roshan Sada,’ reinforcing the belief that service to humanity is an ongoing mission. This year, 45 winners across 13 categories were recognized for their outstanding efforts, selected through a transparent and independent process led by a distinguished jury and validated by globally renowned audit firm EY.

With the platform in its 4th year, it was nothing short of remarkable to witness among the previous applicants from last year, several new organizations coming up and taking the center stage. With the growing challenges of the city, philanthropy has also gone out of the box to come up with solutions that are unique and cater to a specific segment of the society. Mehrdar Art & Production is uniquely leveraging the power of art and music as a tool for awareness and community building, whereas Charter for Compassion is advocating for mental health, compassion-driven education, and social justice. Kharadar General Hospital continues to provide accessible and quality healthcare to underserved populations. Other remarkable first-time winners included Ulphat Welfare Organization, Dua Foundation, Transparent Hands, and Shine Humanity, all of whom are striving to bridge the gaps in healthcare, welfare, and social support services across Karachi.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion were also at the heart of this year’s awards. Nine women-led organizations were among the winners, reinforcing the growing representation of women in leadership roles and their transformative impact on communities. Kiran Foundation continues to transform lives through focusing on mother and child education and mental health support. Durbeen is revolutionizing teacher training and education reform, while Dream Foundation Trust is working towards supporting underprivileged communities through education and healthcare. Irada and Taleem-o-Agahi focus on advancing literacy and educational reform remains committed to empowering marginalized communities. Panah Shelter Home provides a crucial haven for women in distress, while Tehrik-e-Niswan has been a powerful force in promoting women empowerment, cultural expression and social change through performing arts. IBP School of Education, and Women Development Foundation have also played key roles in promoting inclusivity and economic empowerment for women in Karachi.

While the awards celebrate new entrants, they also acknowledge organizations that have demonstrated long-term commitment and excellence in their respective fields. Some organizations stood out this year by securing two awards each, highlighting their multi-faceted impact. KDSP, KVTC, Saylani Welfare Trust, Kharadar General Hospital, and JIA continued to expand their efforts across multiple domains, reinforcing their sustained role in Karachi’s development.

What sets the KHI Awards apart is its commitment to fairness and credibility. Each application undergoes a meticulous evaluation process, overseen by an independent jury of industry experts and social sector leaders. Reflecting on the awards, Saad Amanullah Khan, Jury Chairman and a KE board member shared their thoughts, emphasizing how Karachi thrives when its people and organizations come together to drive progress. The KHI Awards serve as more than just recognition—they amplify the voices of those making a tangible difference. KE is honored to provide this platform, ensuring that impactful initiatives continue to grow, inspire, and transform lives.

As the KHI Awards 2024 conclude, they leave behind a powerful message: Karachi’s transformation is a collective effort. From first-time winners to seasoned changemakers, each recipient represents a piece of the city’s evolving social fabric. Their work is a beacon of hope, proving that with dedication, collaboration, and a shared vision, Karachi’s challenges can be met with innovative solutions and lasting impact. With KE’s continued commitment to strengthening this platform, the spirit of service—’Khidmat Ka Jazba’—will remain a driving force in empowering communities, bridging social gaps, and illuminating Karachi’s path to a brighter future.
