‘Making PayPal and Stripe Payment Gateways Available in Pakistan is Our Top Priority’, IT Minister Dr. Umar Saif

Dr. Umar Saif, who oversees IT & Telecom and Science & Technology in Pakistan, has made it a top priority to bring PayPal and Stripe payment services to Pakistan.

He talked about this at the ITCN Asia 2023 event in Karachi, where he acknowledged the challenges faced by freelancers because these payment platforms aren’t available.

He stressed that PayPal and Stripe are essential for freelancers, who make up a big part of Pakistan’s online workforce. Dr. Saif plans to meet with these companies to make it happen.

He also mentioned how Pakistan’s IT industry can help the country’s economy, being the second-largest online marketplace for workers globally. There are about 400,000 freelancers in Pakistan.

Dr. Saif knows the IT industry faces problems like changing taxes and difficulty bringing money back to Pakistan. The government wants to help by looking into ideas like dollar retention accounts, which could grow the industry from $2.6 billion to $3.5 billion quickly.
