‘Malta to Recognise Palestine as State Next Month’, PM of Malta

Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that the country will officially recognize the State of Palestine next month. This decision, he said, is based on a strong moral responsibility, especially in light of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Speaking at a political event, Prime Minister Abela strongly condemned Israel’s military actions. He highlighted the tragic loss of nearly 54,000 Palestinian lives, most of whom were women and children. Abela expressed deep sadness over the deaths of nine children belonging to Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, a Palestinian doctor whose family was killed in an Israeli airstrike.

Abela said he was personally touched by Dr. Najjar’s story and added that Malta would be ready to offer her and her surviving family members a safe haven. This move shows Malta’s human rights stance and its willingness to support those affected by war.

Malta’s recognition of Palestine will officially take place after a scheduled conference on June 20. This step follows similar recognitions made recently by Ireland, Spain, and Norway.

The Maltese Prime Minister explained that recognizing Palestine is not just a political statement, but a humanitarian act meant to support peace and justice. He emphasized that the international community must do more to stop the suffering of innocent civilians in Gaza and work toward a peaceful solution.

With this move, Malta joins a growing number of nations calling for an end to the violence and for equal rights and recognition for the Palestinian people. The announcement has been widely praised by human rights groups and supporters of Palestinian statehood around the world.
