WhatsApp has launched a new app for Mac computers, allowing users to make video calls with up to eight people and audio calls with a maximum of 32 participants. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Meta (previously Facebook), on his Facebook account.
Those interested can download the app from WhatsApp’s official website, and it will soon be available on the Apple App Store for macOS. The new app has been designed to feel familiar to Mac users, making it easier to use WhatsApp on a bigger screen.
It lets you share files by simply dragging and dropping them in chats, and you can access chat history more easily. This was explained in a blog post by the app’s owner, Meta. WhatsApp has been testing its Mac app, and a public beta version was released earlier this year.
This version was for users with Apple Silicon systems and macOS 11 Big Sur or newer. In March of this year, WhatsApp also introduced a similar Windows app that supports group calls. Although WhatsApp launched its desktop apps in 2016, it has kept up with changes in computer technology by improving its app offerings.
The messaging platform also introduced the ability to link one account to multiple devices, so you can receive messages on up to four devices, even if your main phone is offline.
