At least 15 people lost their lives and more than 80 others were injured in a suicide bombing at Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra in Islamabad’s Tarlai area on Friday. The attack took place during Friday prayers, when a large number of worshippers were present inside the mosque.
According to officials, the attacker detonated himself at the entrance of the imambargah. The powerful blast caused panic and chaos, leaving many people injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene immediately after the explosion to rescue victims and provide medical help.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, including PIMS and Polyclinic Hospital.
Hospital authorities confirmed that emergency measures were put in place to treat the wounded, and medical staff worked continuously to handle the large number of patients.
Following the attack, security forces, including police, army personnel, and Rangers, sealed off the area. Search and security operations were launched to ensure safety and gather evidence from the site. Authorities also increased security across the capital to prevent any further incidents.
National leaders strongly condemned the attack. The President, Prime Minister, and opposition leaders expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives.
They described the attack as a cowardly act and an assault on humanity and religious values. Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fighting terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens.
The incident comes after a series of deadly attacks in Balochistan, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by the country. Officials stressed that counter-terrorism efforts will continue and those responsible will be brought to justice.
