Meta has taken a major step in advancing Pakistan’s digital future by launching its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI in Urdu. The move aims to make advanced technology more inclusive and accessible for millions of Urdu-speaking users across the country.
The announcement came during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).
The initiative highlights Meta’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s growing digital ecosystem through AI education, innovation, and public sector collaboration.
With this rollout, users in Pakistan can now communicate with Meta AI in both English and Urdu, creating a more natural and personalized experience. Meta stated that this step is part of its broader mission to remove language barriers and bring technology closer to people’s daily lives.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, welcomed the development, calling it a major contribution to the Prime Minister’s “Digital Pakistan Vision.” She said the inclusion of Urdu will empower citizens nationwide, ensuring that everyone benefits from the digital revolution.
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, said the company is dedicated to helping government bodies and universities integrate AI tools effectively.
“The availability of Meta AI in Urdu will help local communities connect with technology in a more meaningful way,” he added.
To support this vision, Meta also launched several initiatives, including the AI Literacy Programme in partnership with HEC, NCEAC, MoITT, and atomcamp. The programme will train 350 university teachers across Pakistan in AI fundamentals.
Additionally, Meta announced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 initiative to help public institutions adopt digital tools and global best practices.
The company also released a local version of its guide, Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama, developed with Deloitte, to demonstrate how AI can enhance governance and service delivery.
By introducing Meta AI in Urdu, the company has taken an important step toward building a more digitally connected and inclusive Pakistan.
