Due to concerns about piracy, the Ministry of Science and Technology has refused to divulge critical facts about electronic voting machines with Pakistan’s Election Commission.
According to the specifics, the ministry stated that it is unable to release the source code and construction design of the EVMs to ECP until an agreement with the makers is reached.
Shibli Faraz, the Minister of Science, stated that the government has not refused the ECP’s demand, but has instead provided an explanation to the election body.
According to the federal government, the source code and construction design could be stolen, therefore sharing the information without an agreement with the makers is risky.
The ECP and the government have been at odds over the deployment of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the impending general elections of 2023, with both parties accusing the other of rigging the poll.
