Mobile Phone services have been disrupted in various areas of Karachi during Muharram processions. The targeted areas include Steel Town, Jafar Tayar Society, Gulshan-e-Hadid, and Zakariya Goth. Moreover, security measures were strictly implemented.
The provincial government has not released any specific announcement regarding the suspension of mobile phone services in the city yet. However, The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority confirmed the discontinuation of mobile services in the region during the processions of Muharram.
According to PTA, the suspensions would continue to occur in sensitive areas of Karachi until Ashura. However, the exact areas and duration of the dismissal of services were not mentioned. The reason behind the decision is also not revealed, however it might have been taken to ensure safety.
