Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousaf has strongly called for an end to political influence and personal agendas within the Pakistan Cricket Board, describing the current period as one of the darkest phases in the country’s cricket history. His remarks came in the aftermath of Pakistan’s 61-run defeat to India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, a loss that has intensified concerns over the team’s direction and performance.
Yousaf sharply criticized the board’s officials, labeling them as incompetent, and highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive administrative reforms. He stressed that the team cannot return to its former glory without a governance structure that prioritizes merit, transparency, and the long-term development of players. According to him, interference from management and undue influence within the team have directly affected performance on the field.
He further emphasized that restoring competitiveness will require clear separation between administrative decisions and player management, along with a renewed focus on nurturing talent and strengthening the domestic cricket system. Yousaf warned that without these reforms, Pakistan risks continued underperformance in major international tournaments and could fall further behind other leading cricketing nations. His statements reflect a growing demand among former players, experts, and fans for accountability and structural change to revive Pakistan cricket’s legacy.
