Moment of Pride! Lahore High Court Gets First Woman Judge in a Decade

Justice Abhar Gul Khan has made history by becoming the first woman in ten years to be appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC). This is an important achievement, as it strengthens the representation of women in the judiciary.

With this appointment, Justice Abhar Gul Khan becomes the second woman currently serving as a judge at the LHC. She joins Justice Aalia Neelum, who is also a trailblazer as the first woman to hold the position of Chief Justice at the Lahore High Court.

Justice Abhar Gul Khan was born in Lahore in 1972. She completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Punjab University in 1995. She continued her education and earned a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in 1998.

Her career in the judiciary has been marked by steady progress through various important roles. She started as a civil judge and later served as a senior civil judge. She also took on responsibilities as an additional sessions judge and eventually became a sessions judge. Her extensive experience and dedication to her work have led her to this historic appointment at the LHC.

Justice Abhar Gul Khan’s achievement is not only a personal success but also a step forward for women’s empowerment and representation in the legal field. It highlights the breaking of barriers in a traditionally male-dominated profession, inspiring future generations of women to pursue careers in law and the judiciary.
