Motorola Demonstrates its Long-Distance Wireless Charger

Just after Xiaomi launched Mi Air Charge, Motorola introduced its understanding of how devices could charge wirelessly from a distance. The Lenovo subsidiary’s technology can charge from a distance of one meter, provided that nothing between the charger and the unit stands in the way.

According to the official video, two Motorola Edge phones (probably adjusted for the test) are positioned 80cm and 100cm away from the charger respectively, in a standing position. They start to fill up the battery immediately, but the process stops once a person places his hand on the charger.

Apparently, the charger is called Motorola One Hyper and although the technology is based on the Qi standard, it is actually better; the company said. There may be seven simultaneously charged phones, but Motorola does not offer any real figures, such as the system charging rate, and whether all phones will have the same speed or share the charging power.

Motorola also said that this is the right way to do wireless charging and while it may sound like a dig to Xiaomi, it is more likely the company wants the market to move away from the need to have the phone continuously sitting on a charger.
