Muhammad Yousaf Likely to Become Head Coach of Pakistan Cricket Team

Muhammad Yousuf, a former Pakistan cricketer, is anticipated to be named the interim head coach of the national men’s team for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, according to sources.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which was unable to reach an agreement with Mickey Arthur regarding the role of head coach, is likely to make the decision.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier disclosed that it had been in contact with the former head coach of the national side, Arthur. These discussions had taken place ahead of the ACC Asia Cup, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Due to Arthur’s extensive contract with Derbyshire, PCB has also discussed a proposal to have him serve as a consultant to the team on a time-sharing basis.

It should be mentioned that the New Zealand series served as head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and bowling coach Shaun Tait’s final assignment before their contracts expired in February 2023.

Yousuf’s hiring—who had previously served as the team’s batting coach—had previously been determined on a series-by-series basis under the Ramiz Raja-led administration. He works as the batting coach at the National High Performance Centre (NHPC) in Lahore on a full-time basis.
