MEPCO has introduced a special relief plan for agricultural consumers struggling with unpaid electricity bills, some of which date back to 2015. The initiative is designed to help farmers gradually clear their dues without facing immediate financial pressure.
The new installment scheme includes:
Up to Rs. 1 million in dues – Payable in 30 monthly installments
- Rs. 1–3 million in dues – Payable in 40 monthly installments
- Above Rs. 3 million – Cases to be reviewed individually
Farmers whose power supply has been disconnected can now restore it by paying just 10% of their outstanding amount, along with Reconnection Order (RCO) charges.
However, MEPCO has clearly stated that a monthly markup will be applied, and defaulting on even one installment will cancel the facility.
This relief plan was approved by MEPCO Chief Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid and officially announced by Chief Engineer Customer Services, Syed Jawad Mansoor Ahmed. It is part of MEPCO’s wider strategy to recover billions in outstanding payments while supporting the farming community facing rising costs.
With this move, MEPCO aims to strike a balance between revenue collection and easing the financial burden on agricultural users ensuring that access to electricity remains possible for those who feed the nation.
