The Murree Expressway has been temporarily shut for regular traffic because of heavy snowfall in the area, according to local authorities. The closure applies to the stretch between Phulgara Toll Plaza and Murree, where snow accumulation has made road conditions unsafe for general travel.
Officials confirmed that the N-75 highway is still open but only for local residents and emergency vehicles. This measure has been taken to ensure that essential movement is not disrupted while reducing the risk of accidents during severe weather.
Authorities have advised travelers to postpone non-essential journeys to Murree until weather conditions improve. With snow and rain expected to continue into early January, officials stressed that unnecessary travel could lead to traffic congestion and safety hazards.
To manage the situation, the district administration and traffic police have deployed additional staff across key points. Leaves of relevant personnel have been canceled, and a special traffic plan has been put in place ahead of New Year celebrations.
The plan focuses on smooth traffic flow, quick response to emergencies, and preventing vehicles from getting stranded due to snow.
Visitors who must travel to the region have been urged to take precautionary measures. These include using tire chains, keeping fuel tanks full, and strictly following instructions issued by traffic police. Drivers are also advised to check weather updates before starting their journey.
Officials emphasized that safety remains the top priority during the winter season. They added that roads will be reopened for general traffic only after conditions improve and routes are cleared of snow.
Travelers are encouraged to cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and orderly situation during the ongoing spell of harsh weather.
