NADRA Announces ID Cards Without Birth Certificates

The National Database and Registration Authority has introduced a temporary relief for citizens who do not have birth certificates. Under this new decision, people can apply for a national identity card even if they cannot submit a birth record.

The step was approved by the Authority Board under the NADRA Ordinance, following directions from the Interior Minister. Officials say the move aims to help thousands of Pakistanis who were unable to register earlier due to missing documents.

Many citizens, especially in rural areas, never received official birth certificates, which later created problems in getting an ID card.

This facility is only for first time applicants. It will remain available until December 31, 2026. After this date, the usual documentation rules are expected to apply again.

However, applicants must still meet certain verification conditions. Married women are required to present a valid marriage certificate. They must also complete biometric verification of close family members.

Men aged 24 years or above must provide identification details of their parents and siblings to confirm their identity.

According to officials, first time applicants under this scheme will receive a free non smart national identity card.

Authorities have advised citizens to provide correct and complete information during the registration process to avoid delays or legal issues.

The decision is being seen as a step to improve national registration coverage and ensure that more citizens are formally documented.
