NADRA Makes Major Changes to CNIC, FRC and B-Form Rules

NADRA has introduced some big changes to improve Pakistan’s identity system, making it more modern, secure, and reliable. These reforms were approved by the federal cabinet on the instructions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The goal is to stop fraud, make ID processes easier, and keep records up to date.

One of the main changes is that parents must now get their child’s birth registered at the Union Council before applying for a B-Form. NADRA will also use different biometric and photo rules based on a person’s age to make identification more accurate.

Family Registration Certificates (FRCs) have now been given legal status. This means they can be used for official purposes, such as confirming family relationships. Also, separate B-Forms will now be issued with a set validity period, especially for those applying for a passport.

Citizens will also be able to update their family records either by visiting NADRA offices or using the NADRA app, making the process much more convenient.

For people who have non-chip ID cards, NADRA will now include smart card features such as QR codes and bilingual details—at a lower cost than a full smart card.

These updates are part of a wider effort to build a safer and more digital identity system for everyone in Pakistan.
