Nationwide Heavy Rain Alert Issued in Pakistan Until August 30

NDMA has issued a nationwide alert for heavy rains and possible flooding between August 23 and August 30. According to the warning, three major rain systems will move across Pakistan during this period, bringing widespread downpours and stormy weather.

In Punjab, major cities such as Lahore and Faisalabad could face urban flooding due to intense rainfall. Meanwhile, in the northern regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, there is a risk of landslides as continuous rains may weaken the slopes and mountain tracks.

The southern parts of Pakistan, especially coastal Sindh and Balochistan, are also expected to receive heavy showers accompanied by strong winds. These conditions could disrupt transport, damage infrastructure, and affect local communities.

Rivers are another concern during this spell. Rising water levels in the Indus, Ravi, and Chenab may overflow into nearby low-lying areas, posing a threat to villages and towns close to riverbanks.

The NDMA has advised citizens to take extra care during this time. People are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to the northern hilly regions where the danger of landslides is high. Local authorities and rescue teams have already been placed on high alert to respond quickly to any emergency.

Citizens are also encouraged to follow official updates, check weather forecasts regularly, and move to safer places if required. By staying prepared and informed, communities can minimize risks and keep themselves and their families safe.
