Natural Disaster Monitoring Sites to be Set Up in Mountainous Northern Pakistan

The Natural Disaster Observation and Research Center will be set up by China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences in the Karakoram Mountains with Karakoram International University.

The monitoring centers will be established in Gilgit, Hunza, and other important areas for guidance and protection against glacial lake outbursts, landslides, and glacier debris flow. The centers will be highly advantageous to the underprivileged communities located along the CPEC in the northern sites of Pakistan.

Moreover, a digital CPEC platform will also be initiated to prevent disasters along CPEC by supporting the accession, preservation, sharing, and utilization of data about the ecological environment.

The great initiative is meant to reduce the damage caused to livelihoods by natural disasters in the northern areas.
