NEPRA Approves Supply of Additional 150MW to K-Electric

On Friday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved a tripartite power purchase agreement (TPPA) between K-Electric, National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), and Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) for 150MW of additional national grid power supply to Karachi.

Power generation of 50MW each from Tenaga, Zephyr, and Hydro China Dawood wind power plants will be supplied to KE via the national grid under the TPPA. The additional 150MW power supply to Karachi had already been authorized by the cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).

Nepra had also given the agreement its preliminary approval, subject to a transparent framework for dealing with non-project missed volumes (NPMV). However, KE later informed the regulator that the comprehensive methodology for allocating NPMV to the Karachi-based power utility or the NTDC network will be decided separately as part of operating procedures to be established by an operating committee, as prescribed by law.
