Solar-powered net metering has now become the most affordable source of electricity in Pakistan, even cheaper than power from the national grid. In the last four months, electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) bought a total of 573.7 million units of solar-generated power from households and businesses. MEPCO recorded the highest purchase, with 157.764 million units, showing strong adoption in its region.
One of the biggest advantages of net metering is that the electricity comes at zero fuel cost. Because solar energy does not require oil, gas, or coal, power companies save a significant amount of money. This has helped reduce the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments, which usually increase consumer bills. As a result, both power companies and consumers are benefiting from lower overall costs.
Month-by-month data shows that the demand and procurement of solar energy continue to increase, even while discussions about tariff changes are ongoing. This steady growth proves that solar power is becoming a reliable and important part of Pakistan’s energy supply.
Experts believe that this trend marks an important step toward a cleaner and more stable energy future. With more homes and businesses installing solar systems, Pakistan is moving toward sustainable, affordable, and dependable electricity for everyone.
