Pakistan has signed a major new defence deal to acquire Turkish-designed armored vehicles manufactured in Kazakhstan. This trilateral partnership between Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye will strengthen Pakistan’s military mobility and border security.
The agreement was finalised during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Pakistan in February 2026. It includes the Aibar 4×4 armored vehicle and the Taimas 8×8 infantry fighting vehicle. Both are produced at Kazakhstan’s Besqaru defence plant.
The Aibar 4×4 is based on Türkiye’s famous Otokar Cobra II platform. It is highly mobile, amphibious, and offers strong protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The Taimas 8×8 is derived from Otokar’s ARMA 8×8 and serves as a modern infantry fighting vehicle for troop transport and reconnaissance missions.
The deal is valued between $300 million and $600 million. It also covers training, maintenance, and long-term support for Pakistani forces. These vehicles will be particularly useful for counterinsurgency operations along the Afghanistan border and other challenging terrains.
This arrangement allows Pakistan to get advanced NATO-standard technology through a reliable Central Asian route. It also opens a new Eurasian defence corridor linking Türkiye’s design expertise with Kazakh production and Pakistani needs.
Defence experts say the new vehicles will greatly improve troop safety and operational capability. The first batch is expected soon.
This deal highlights growing defence cooperation among the three friendly nations and marks another step in modernising Pakistan’s armed forces.
