New Government Hikes Electricity Price by Rs. 2.86 Per Unit

On Friday, NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) approved an electricity tariff increase of Rs 2.86 per unit due to the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) by March 2022.

The Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) had applied to Nepra, seeking an electricity price increase of Rs 3.15 per unit.

The decision to raise the electricity tariff will impose an additional charge of Rs28.9 billion on consumers.

All consumer categories of distributors, except for Lifeline customers and electric consumers, will pay the FCA with the May 2022 bill.

In its petition, the CPPA stated that 10 billion units were sold at Rs 94 billion in March.

The regulator reported that the unit price of thermal oil-generated electricity was Rs 22.52 in March, while the unit cost of LNG-generated electricity was Rs 14.36.
