New guidelines for iftar arrangements at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah have been introduced ahead of Ramadan, ensuring a smooth and well-organized experience for worshippers. Authorities have outlined strict requirements for meal providers while allowing them to include additional food items in this year’s offerings.
According to sources, the General Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosques has approved an updated iftar menu. The standard meal will continue to include dates, bread, yogurt, water, and wrapped tissues. However, service providers will now be allowed to add two extra items such as nuts, cupcakes, pies, maamoul, cream, or stuffed dates. This change aims to offer more variety while maintaining quality standards.
To ensure food safety and efficient distribution, only registered catering companies with experience in serving Hajj and Umrah pilgrims will be permitted to participate.
These firms must update their records and obtain the necessary permits before providing meals. Additionally, they are required to meet specific hygiene and logistical criteria, including having at least three refrigerated vehicles, packing facilities of at least 600 square meters, and a clean track record for the past two years.
Authorities have emphasized close coordination between catering companies and designated officials at the Prophet’s Mosque to ensure timely delivery and smooth operations. The focus remains on maintaining high standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and service quality for worshippers breaking their fast at this sacred location.
Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan has announced changes to its Ramadan Relief Package. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to exclude Utility Stores from the program, citing concerns over corruption and the distribution of substandard goods. Instead, a new approach will be introduced to provide assistance during Ramadan without relying on Utility Stores.
