New York Plans to Declare Sindh And Punjab Sister States

A significant resolution regarding Pakistan is scheduled to be presented in the legislative assembly of New York State (NYS) on March 20. This resolution proposes to declare Sindh and Punjab as sister states of New York.

The resolution will be introduced by NYS Assembly Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos and is expected to be approved promptly.

The timing of presenting the resolution in March holds importance because it coincides with the historic Lahore Resolution of March 23, 1940, which is also known as the Objectives Resolution and the Pakistan Resolution.

If the resolution passes, it will encourage collaboration between the American state and the two Pakistani provinces in various areas such as trade, health, and education.

Ramos’s visit to Pakistan in November 2023 paved the way for this resolution. During his visit, he met with several important figures, including senator Ishaq Dar, caretaker government officials, and business leaders. Ramos also interacted with students at educational institutions.

After discussions with Pakistani and American officials, plans were made to introduce the resolution in the NYS Assembly. Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, who heads the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee, played a vital role in facilitating these discussions.
