University of Otago International Master’s Research Scholarship
The international Master’s Research Scholarship is offered to 8 international candidates. The award is offered to students undertaking a thesis-based master’s only and demonstrate academic performance with a keen interest in research.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility for the course you are applying may vary however the general requirements for the scholarship are the following.
- Candidates must be international students.
- Must be commencing their first year of master’s degree.
- Candidates must be undertaking a thesis-based master’s.
- Since the awards are limited, candidates with A or A+ grades are preferred.
Scholarship Value
The scholarship provides a stipend of NZ$17,172 per year with a tuition fee waiver for 1 year of research. It must be noted that the scholarship provides funding only for the thesis part of the Master’s research degree for up to 1 year of full-time enrollment.
The funding covers partial tuition fees. However, the scholarship on tuition fees is applied at the domestic fee rate, and the international student fee rate is usually more than for domestic students. Therefore, the international students would have to pay the remaining amount.

- Applicants first need to apply for the specific program they intend to study through the eVision online portal.
- If your program is only thesis-based (1 year) or 2 years program with a thesis starting from next year, you will be notified as well.
- After admission to the particular program, the candidates will be called to apply for the scholarship through the eVision portal.
