No Admission for “Below-Merit Students” in Medical Colleges

The PMC- Pakistan Medical Commission recently said that it won’t allow any below-merit student to gain the admission in any medical college as to become a medical professional or a doctor on the basis of the wealth of their parents.

However, it was also announced that they are establishing funds for the meritorious students who are unable to afford the medical education. This statement shows that the PMC is providing a clear opportunity for the students on merit without any issue of affordability of medical courses fee.

A webinar was organized by Pima- Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, with a title of Pakistan Medical Commission whereas the Apprehensions and Expectations was the second in series on the issues of an establishment and the functioning of PMC.

Dr Arshad Taqi, the President of PMC told in webinar that in Sindh about 8,000 students secured more than 60% marks on merit in the Medical & Dental College Admission Test- MDCAT that had held recently; however, they were not able to gain the admission in the private medical colleges just because of the factor of affordability.

Moreover, he added that, “Now we are being asked as to allow admissions to those students who are below-merit as just to fill the seats of the private medical colleges, which is totally unacceptable to us.”
