No More AI Content? YouTube Will Pay Only for Posting Original Content With Real Voices

YouTube will be updating its monetisation rules starting July 15, in an effort to deal with the growing problem of fake or low-quality content, much of which is being created using artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

The new rules are meant to stop creators from earning money on videos that are mass-produced, repetitive, or generated by AI without adding any real value or originality. This includes content made with AI voices, videos using reused clips without meaningful changes, or reaction-style content that doesn’t offer anything new.

Although YouTube describes this as a small update, it may have a big impact on creators who rely heavily on AI or automation. The platform wants to clean up what it calls “low-effort” or “spammy” content—often referred to as “AI slop”—that clutters the site and reduces the overall quality of videos available to viewers.

With these changes, YouTube is making it clear that creators need to focus on producing their own original, creative, and authentic content if they want to remain eligible to earn money through the platform. This step is part of YouTube’s ongoing efforts to maintain a high standard for the content shared with its global audience.
